Middle Age: Staying Active with Limits

The other day, while briskly sticking needles into my arms and legs, my acupuncturist gazed at me knowingly and said, “You should be exercising to the point where you feel energized afterward. Listen to your body, and stay away from goal-driven workouts.”

I felt like a pinned butterfly—as if he had looked into my soul and seen my dirty secret.

Reviewed: Schwalbe G-One Allroad Tires


The 2010 Salsa Vaya is my go-to road bike. It takes me confidently down paved, dirt, and gravel roads, and handily manages the bits of singletrack I often discover on familiar routes. For the last few years, it’s been shod with the celebrated 40 mm Clement X’plor MSOs. To be honest, I never liked those tires.
